Statement of Faith (Doctrinal Beliefs)
We Believe
What we believe as a church is commonly known as church doctrine. Our doctrine is the foundation by which we serve God. New Jerusalem Evangelical Church’s doctrinal statement has been organized into categories to assist you in understanding what we believe and teach through our various ministries.
Bible
The Bible is the revelation of God, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. The Bible in both Old and New Testament is inherent, infallible, and the final authority for life and faith. The Bible is trustworthy in all its teachings, it is the final and complete revelation of God to man (2 Tim 3: 16-17; 2 Pi. 1: 20-21).
God
There is one God, eternal, creator of all things, existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28: 19; 2 Cor. 13: 14; John 14: 10, 26)
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, eternally God and holy. Incarnate under the action of the Holy Spirit, He died as a substitute and atoning sacrifice for our sins. After resurrection, He is glorified and went up to heaven. He’s coming back to remove His church and judge the sinners (Is. 7:14; Mat. 1:18-23; Luck 1:35; Ph. 2:5-11; Mat 28:1-16; 1 Thes. 4:14-18)
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God. He inspired the Scriptures. He gives illumination to understand the Holy Scriptures, and convicts the sinner concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. He is dwelling in the heart of believers that He regenerates and calls to praise and to serve God in His Church (Gen. 1:2; Mat 3:16; 28:19; Act 1:8; 1 Co. 2:10-14)
Man
Man was created in the image of God, and became completely sinner by the fall. He is spiritually dead, and unable to save outside of the work of Jesus Christ (Gen. 1:26-27; Rom. 3:22-23; Eph. 2:1-3)
Salvation
Salvation is only by grace through faith in the atoning sacrifice and in the person of Jesus Christ (John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Pi. 1:18-19)
Church
The Church is the body of Christ, and the assembly of believers who have been baptized into Christ according to the Gospel. We believe that the Holy Spirit is at work within the Church; He calls and empowers ministers to the sacred service (Act. 2:41-42; Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18).
Baptism
Baptism is the water immersion in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, of someone who believes in Jesus-Christ, and receives Him as his/her personal Savior and Master (Mk. 16:15-16; Ac. 2:37-38; 8:36-38)
Lord’s Supper
Lord’s Supper is the memory of the sacrificial death of Jesus-Christ. It is Christ’s sacrament for the church, and the bread and the wine are respectively a symbol of Jesus body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins (Mat. 26:26-30; 1 Co. 11:23-30)
Sexuality
We believe that sexuality is God’s precious gift to mankind, and that sexual relationship is biblically reserved for marital couple between a man and a woman (Gen. 2:24). The Bible condemns all other forms of sexual practices considered as a perversion of God’s gift to humanity (Gen. 19:5-13; Lev. 18:1-30; Rom. 1:26-29; 1 Co 6:9-10)
Marriage
We believe that God honors marriage as a legitimate and a permanent union between a man and a woman. We also believe that divorce is against God’s plan for marriage (Mal. 2:14-17; Mat. 19:3-12; Rom. 7:1-3).
